Chocolate Frosted Doughnuts
Serving: 40-45 mini donuts/ 22 regular sized donuts
Cooking Time: Approx 2 hrs (including 1 hr resting time for dough)
- 2 cups all purpose flour(maida)
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 pinch of salt
- 4 tbsp melted butter
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- Water if required
- Extra flour for rolling and dusting
- Oil for deep frying
- 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup rainbow sprinkles
Step 1: First of all we will prepare yeast mixture. Warm the milk, take it in a small bowl and add sugar to it. Mix well till sugar dissolves completely. Add dry yeast, mix it, cover it and keep it aside for 10 minutes or till it becomes foamy. If after 10 minutes the mixture is not foamy then keep it for some more time till it is foamy, if after that also it is not foamy then something is wrong with the yeast. You should not use this as this will not give good results.
Step 2: Take deep big bowl and sieve flour in it. Add salt, baking powder and mix nicely. Then add melted butter and vanilla extract.
Step 3: Now add yeast mixture prepared in step 1 and make little sticky dough, use water if required. Then dust a clean kitchen surface with flour and turn the dough on it and knead it for about 5 minutes till smooth dough is formed. Keep the dough in the same bowl, cover it and keep it aside for about 30 minutes till the dough doubles.
Step 4: After 30-35 minutes the dough will become double.
Step 5: Take the dough and knead it again for about 2-3 minutes. Divide the dough into 2-3 equal portions and make round balls of it as we make for chapattis. Use flour if dough is sticking in your hand. Dust the clean kitchen surface with flour and roll the dough into thick circle. Now with the help of round cookie cutter or any sharp round utensil, cut into small-small disk. Then again with small cookie cutter or a small cap lid of any bottle, press on center of disk and make small hole. You will get exact shape of doughnut.
Step 6: Place the doughnuts on a plate or tray. Apply little oil with brush or spray. Cover the plate or tray with plastic wrap or with another tray or plate and keep it aside for about 30-35 minutes or till it is double.
Step 7: After 30 minutes or when the doughnuts are double, take oil in a deep kadhai/pan and when oil is hot enough then deep fry the doughnuts till it is golden brown in color. Keep the gas on medium flame. Take out the doughnuts on absorbent paper and keep aside. If you do not want to deep fry the doughnuts, then you can also bake them at 200 degree celsius or 400 degree Fahrenheit for 6-7 minutes till it is golden brown in color.
Step 8: Now as we are done with making doughnuts we will move forward to make chocolate frosting. This will take around 10-12 minutes. Melt a cup of semi sweet chocolate chips on double boiler or microwave and add 2 tbsp butter to it. Stir it nicely. When the chocolate is smooth and has melted completely then it is ready for frosting.
Step 9: We will now frost the doughnuts. Take one doughnut at a time, dip it in the chocolate frosting so that it is dipped half way through and it is nicely frosted on one side, then keep it on a plate/tray and sprinkle the rainbow sprinkles immediately so that it will stick to the frosting. If the frosting sets/dries then the sprinkles will not stick to the doughnut. Like this frost and decorate all the doughnuts. You can decorate the doughnuts as per your liking, you can also leave it without any decoration i.e only with chocolate frosting, and then also it will be equally delicious. Super yummy doughnut is ready to be enjoyed. Keep it in an air tight container. It will be soft and chewy for about 2-3 days. Enjoy!!
