In youth, the days are short and the years are long. In old age, the years are short and days long.
A somewhat 30 plus year-old son decided to admit his father into an old age home after a long grueling battle with his wife and finally took his father in a car to an old age home run by the Missionaries.
After the tedious admission procedures and formalities done by the son, their appeared this elderly Priest, who came out to have a chat with the old man and it continued for long hours irrespective of the time constrain the Priest had and it went on and not able to withstand, the son wondered and asked the priest whether he knew his father before, since they were talking as though they knew each other for long time.
The priest paused for a moment and answered, yes my son and continued, “He came here 30 years back and took with him a very sick orphan boy who everyone else had rejected for adoption and this man without giving a second thought, gave that boy a home and saved his life from the death bed. He told us this little boy deserves better life and I’ll dedicate my entire life and make him the virtues person and wealthiest by the time he turns 25”.
The priest did not stop there and continued saying; “I don’t know for how long you have known him but I can tell you he is a good man and I am glad to inform you that you were that sick boy”. After realizing the sin he was about to commit, he fell on his knees and begged the old man for forgiveness.
The old man looked at him with a smile and said, “Son, I have forgiven you. You threw me out of my own home because of your wife. I have no qualms, take the house, but know that I have removed you from my documents as the sole heir of my empire. I have willed all my properties to this old age orphanage where I now belong.”
When we consider ourselves to be big, we usually expect from others. We usually want others to give respect and be obedient to whatever we say. But not always do we find others listening to us or obeying us.
We are then disappointed and try to use more of our authority in a forceful way. To be big means not to expect to take but to be a giver. If we are big, we definitely also need the understanding that we are in a better position than the other person and so we need to give. This attitude will help us get others’ good wishes which will help us progress and we continue to achieve success.
